In addition to the Greeley campus 程序, you can also earn your 特殊教育 Generalist bachelor’s degree 和 K-12 licensure at UNC’s 城市教育中心 在丹佛. As part of the Denver 程序, you’ll work in a classroom as a teacher apprentice beginning your first year, with opportunities to receive pay as well as 学分. Classes are available afternoons 和 evenings for added flexibility.

特殊教育 Generalist K-12 Teaching Concentration
Gain the skills to work with students across a wide range of needs 和 abilities. When you successfully complete the K-12 Teaching Concentration 程序 you will receive institutional recommendation for licensure as a 特殊教育 Generalist Teacher through the Colorado Department of Education.
特殊教育 Generalist Liberal 艺术 Concentration
Not sure if you’re ready to pursue a 教学 career? The Liberal 艺术 emphasis provides a strong background in special education theory 和 practice, as well as teacher preparation, but does not include student 教学 field 经历 in the final semester or K-12 教学 licensure upon graduation.

Interested in gaining specialized training 和 experience in urban school districts?
UNC’s 特殊教育 文学学士 和 licensure 程序 combines a liberal
arts teacher apprenticeship with 课程 in special education theory, practice 和
pedagogy to ensure teachers have the breadth of knowledge needed to be effective special
教育教师. As one of three bachelor's degrees with initial licensure offered
by the UNC 城市教育中心, which operates at the UNC Denver Center at
Lowry, this 程序 features structured course schedule (you'll focus on one course
at a time) 和 a paid classroom apprenticeship model that allows you to start earning
和 working in metro area classrooms right away.
With specialized training 和 经历 gained in urban school districts, our graduates
routinely report that their transition to full-time classroom teacher involves no

After completing the 程序, you’ll have the opportunity to become licensed as a
K–12 Special Educator (valid for kindergarten through age 21) with a Generalist Endorsement.
Special education graduates are eligible for the added K–6 Elementary Education endorsement,
after taking 和 successfully passing an Elementary Content Exam.

Self Determination Instruction across the Secondary Continuum

Designed 和 implemented by Lori Peterson 和 her Weld RE-4 School District colleagues, the Self Determination Instruction across the Secondary Continuum project provides professional development 和 coaching for special 教育教师—with the goal of providing secondary students with disabilities the opportunity to develop self-determination skills before entering postsecondary life. The project is currently moving through stages of professional development, data collection, coaching 和 modeling/demonstration with middle 和 high school teachers 和 service providers. 据推测 students who participate in the project 和 receive systematic self-determination instruction over time will develop skills that are not simply introduced 和 forgotten, but become a part of their innate abilities.
